A Bureaucrat's Aside Re: Prevailing Wages

I find it interesting that this story and this story broke in the same week.

I wonder what impact the former is going to have on resolving the latter, or, more fundamentally, if there's even a grocery store out there willing to go into the Hill District and also willing to pay prevailing wages.

Looks like this could be a case of unintended consequences, n'at.

I would think if it were going to be profitable, someone would put a store there.

Greg - I just wish someone would make that argument in regards to a stadium or a hotel or an amphitheater or some condos or anything anything anything else that a simple little place to buy some food and make a residential neighborhood more livable.

My understanding is that the tax payers and the arena were footing 85% of the construction costs... and they still backed out.

Must be a reason.
